The Instructional Level Spelling program is used and students are assigned words at their specific spelling level.   The student spelling level is decided by an inventory given in September. This program focuses on a specific skill or related skills for each list.  For instance, List 1 contains all short vowel words,  List 11 contains silent letter words such as comb, and knight. The goal of the program is to see a carry over of general spelling rules and skills into the student's daily work.

All spelling pretests are given on A-Day. Spelling tests are given on F-Day.

The program concentrates itself on Regions of the United States and Map Skills.

All units of study are taught using a problem-based learning activity that stimulates student thinking and creativity.

The science program concentrates on four units of study which include:

Ecosystems

Magnetism and Electricity

Solor System

Sound

(Click on the topic for more information and activities about each unit.)

All units are taught utilizing a hands-on science program developed by staff members and Mary Jo Diem, science learning consultant. The units attempt to teach students about science through learning and working with the scientific method.

The third grade concentrates on cementing manuscript writing, while teaching the basic tools of cursive writing utilizing the Zane-Bloser approach. For more information, click here.
