What are we working on?
In Reader's Workshop, students are participating in Literature Circles. The students meet in small groups to discuss the book of their choice. Each student fulfills one of five roles: Discussion Director, Connector, Literary Luminary, Word Wizard, and Illustrator.
In Writer's Workshop, we have been working on writing poems. We are learning about various styles of poetry as well as finding our own voice as poets. Our Writer's Notebooks are filling up with beautiful pieces of poetry!
Our current Everyday Math unit focuses on measurement and data. Measurement concepts include measuring length, volume, and weight, and exploring capacity. Data concepts include finding the mean and median in a data set, making frequency tables, and plotting coordinate grids.
In Social Studies, we are continuing our study of the regions of the United States. We are currently exploring the Pacific Region. We will be completing projects about the landforms and environmental phenomena of the region. Why do earthquakes shake the ground? How do volcanoes erupt? These are some questions our projects will answer!
In Science, we are working on our sound unit. We are exploring vibrations, frequency, pitch, and volume. We will even be making our own musical instruments! The instrument project will be due on Friday, June 13.
Our handwriting has been better than ever. We continue to learn new letters while perfecting the others! Please remember to practice the "P's of Perfect Penmanship" (Posture, Paper Position, and Pencil Grip) at all times, not just during handwriting time!
