September

Science: Students need to bring in a clear plastic 2 liter beverage bottle. Please remove all labels. We will be using the bottles for our Ecosystems Unit. Bottles need to be in by September 19th.

Book Orders: All book orders are due September 21st. Checks should be made out to Scholastic Book Club. No cash, please.

Writer's Workshop: Decorated Writer's Notebooks are due in class on Tuesday, September 18th.

October

Reading: Dioramas are due on Friday, October 26th.

Field Trip: Our field trip to the Raptor Trust will be on Wednesday, October 24th. Permission slip and money need to be returned no later than Wednesday, October 17th.

Book Orders: All book orders are due October 16th. Checks should be made out to Scholastic Book Club. You can write one check for all book orders if ordering from both book clubs.

Upper Saddle River Public Library Field Trip: Our class will be walking to the USR Library on Friday, October 19th. Please sign and return the permission slip which was sent home. If you wish your child to register for a Library Card, fill out and return the form that was sent home with the permission slip.

Red Ribbon Week: October 22-October 26: Please have your child wear red to school on Monday, October 22nd to show support for this very important week.

Halloween: The Halloween parade will take place on Wednesday, October 31st at 1:30 pm behind Bogert School.

November

Science: Ecosystems quiz: Wednesday, November 7th; Students have been given a study guide and flashcards to prepare for this quiz.

Field Trip: Our field trip to Liberty Science Center will be on Tuesday, November 13th. Permission slip and money are due by Friday, November 2nd.

Science Ecocolumns: Students need to bring in a note by Friday, November 16th stating they have parental permission to bring home an ecocolumn. If there are more notes than available ecocolumns we will have a class raffle for them.

Book Orders: November book orders are due on Friday, November 16th.

December

Language Arts: Mystery Book report is due on Thursday, December 20th.

Winter Party will be on Friday, December 21st.

January

Happy New Year! Please make returning your reading log every Friday a goal for the new year. Reading a minimum of twenty minutes every night and recording it on your reading log is a homework assignment.

Book Orders are due Friday, January 18th.

Math: Keep practicing multiplication and division facts. Take 10 minutes 3-4 times per week to practice facts. This is part of math homework. Mastery of multiplication and divison facts is an important third grade goal.

February

Happy Valentine's Day! : Our Valentine's Day party will be on Thursday, February 14th. Students may bring in valentines for their classmates and they will be delivered during the party. It is always best to give a valentine to all classmates so everyone is remembered on this special day. Please abide by the Upper Saddle River nutritious food policy and do not attach candies to the valentines. Thank you for your cooperation and support !

Book Orders are due on Friday, February 15th.

Biography Book Project: The biography book project is due on Friday, February 29th. Your child has been provided with a guideline.

March

Moon Journal: Your child has been given a Moon Journal, a list of Moon Phase Terms, and a guideline. He/She needs to observe the moon every evening from March 4th - April 4th. The guideline provides all the specific details for this homework assignment. We will be going over student observations every day in class. Therefore the completed Moon Journal needs to be in class every day. Please make sure your child puts the Moon Journal back in their homework folder after completing their daily observation.

April

Book Fair: Our class will be attending the Book Fair on Wednesday, April 2 from 1:15-2:00 pm. The Book Fair is located in the Travers multipurpose room at Bogert School. You may meet us there and help your child select and purchase books. If you will not be joining us, please send your child with money if you wish for him/her to purchase books during our class visit.

Moon Journal: All Moon Journals are due on Friday, April 4th. They will be collected on this date.

Current Events Report: Current Events Report Sheet: What's "News" In Space is due on April 18, 2008. A copy of the news article should be turned in with the Report Sheet. Your child has been provided with a guideline for this assignment.

May

Field Trip: The class is going on a field trip to the Planetarium at Morris County College in Randolph, NJ. Permission slips are going home on May 1st and need to be returned by May 9th.

Spanish: Students are currently making a Spanish passport. They need a photograph for it. Any student who has not brought in their photograph needs to do so now. (May 1st)

June

Field Trip: Our Planetarium Field Trip is on Tuesday, June 3rd.

Social Studies: The Great State Report Posters are due Friday, June 6th.

Science: Students have been given a guideline for their science project: Making a Musical Instrument. Instruments are due on Monday, June 16th. Please sign the cover sheet of the guideline.

Sound Unit Test: Wednesday, June 18th. Students have been given a study guide.

Writer's Workshop: Our class will be having a Writing Celebration on Tuesday, June 17th from 9:15-10:00. Parents are invited to attend. An invitation was sent home.
