Reader's Book Club
It is third grade policy that students read at least 20 minutes per night. In our classroom, we reach that goal through "Reader's Book Club." Reader's Book Club (RBC) requires every student to read at least one chapter book each month. Each student can pace his/her reading in order to finish the book before the end of each month. After finishing a book, a student takes a "summary sheet" to be filled out at home and turned in before the last school day of the month. If a student reads more than one book in one month, a summary sheet can be filled out for each. For every summary sheet completed each month, a student earns a "lottery ticket" to win a free book in a class drawing. Lottery drawings will take place every couple of months. THE MORE A STUDENT READS , THE MORE CHANCES THERE ARE TO WIN!!! As parents, you can help by making sure your child is reading his/her chosen book approximately twenty minutes each night. Each summary sheet requires a parent signature to verify that your child read the book for each summary turned in. Reader's Book Club is a way for students to work on long-term responsibility in order to meet a goal. The purpose of this program is to emphasize continuous reading of books while encouraging a lifelong love of reading. Please help your child to become responsible for Reader's Book Club. This is a required part of their homework that should be taken seriously. Students who do not turn in a summary sheet by the due date in a given month, will be unable to earn a lottery ticket for the drawing. Please contact me if you have questions. If your child is reading approximately twenty minutes a night and cannot meet the required goal, the program can be modified to meet individual needs. |
