Homework must be handed in when students arrive in the morning. Late homework will result in a deduction of points. Weekly/Long Term Assignments: Language Arts Reading: Students need to read every night for at least 30 minutes. Their reading logs are due upon the completion of their book. Please help your child by signing his/her log and making sure he/she is never without a book to read. Reading homework will be optional during holidays and scheduled school vacations Writing: Students are required keep a writer's notebook. They should be writing entries as well as working on specific writing pieces from classroom lessons. Students are also writing responses to their reading assignments during the week. Students are required to analyze text, make connections and explore the elements of a novel. Spelling: Pre-tests are given on Monday afternoon and post-tests are given on Friday afternoon. Each student has the weekly spelling activity assignment sheet and their list of words in the spelling section of their homework folder. Click here to see the weekly activities. Math Everyday Math Family Letter link Students will receive a weekly computation worksheet every Friday which is due the following Thursday. After 2-3 weeks of a specific skill, there will be a computation test targeting that specific skill. Advanced notice will be given. In addition, your child will be given a studylink packet at the beginning of each unit. Studylinks will be assigned daily and reviewed the following day in class. Science We begin the year with the Microworlds Unit. Students will be: learning about the microscope and other magnifiers, learning to use their 4 senses (not taste!) to describe the properties of objects and looking at objects around them with fine detail. Social Studies Along with learning the states and all their capitals, we will be starting with the geography of the United States and learning about the first Americans.
