A Month At A Glance

April

Dear Parents,

I can't believe the 3rd marking period report cards are going home this week! Spring has sprung and we are moving towards great things in our classroom.

We are in the process of publishing our realistic fiction stories! We had so much fun producing this work, and the students learned so much in the process. Our characters are coming to life and are dealing with issues that kids their age deal with on an everyday basis.

In math, we are learning about algebraic expressions, line graphs, coordinate graphing and circumference and area of circles. We will then move into a study of geometry.

Fiddler Crab time! We are now setting up our habitats for the Animal Studies unit we are starting. We have researched and studied natural habitats, and how to bring an animal into a classroom. Over the next 5 weeks we will be conducting experiments on the fiddler crabs so we can learn more about how animals adapt to certain environments.

We have finished our study on European explorers, and are now turning our attention towards the creation of our first settlement-Jamestown.
