A NOTE FROM MRS. WALKER

Dear Students and Parents ,
I can't believe how quickly this year is going. The fifth graders have just completed half of their last year as an elementary student. I'm so impressed with the work they are doing and how far they have come since September.

In reading and writing, we are continuing our non-fiction work by studying feature articles. Students are looking at various examples and identifying characteristics of the article's structure and work the authors have done. In Math, we are learning how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and using these skills in a variety of word problems. Our Science unit in Buoyancy is coming to a close and the students are very excited while working in groups on their boat designs for our upcoming Boat Expo. In Social Studies, we have just completed our unit on Ancient Egypt and the students are getting ready for our upcoming Egypt interest fair. The research they have found about the different aspects of Egypt civilization has really sparked their interest of ancient history.

As the year progresses and the fifth graders get closer to being middle school students, the expectations continue to rise. Based on the effort and success that many of the students have had so far this year, I know everyone will raise their own bars and begin this next half with continued enthusiasm.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Walker
