Mrs. Walker's Classroom Policies

Homework Policy
|
Homework is a way of assessing a student's understanding of concepts learned in the classroom. Students are given homework on a nightly basis to ensure that they are able to apply the information that is given to them.
Homework assignments will be collected several times throughout the week for a grade. Points are not deducted from the assignment's grade if turned in late, however, a homework grade is determined by the number of assignments that are turned in on time. Students are allowed two late assignments per marking period without a loss in points. At other times, assignments will be discussed and reviewed in class. Assignment sheets and graded work summaries are sent home every week as a means of communication. These sheets are my way of letting the parents know of their child's progress in class. These sheets give notification of any upcoming tests, quizzes, or projects. Both sheets are to be returned the following school day after distribution with a parent or guardian's signature and any missing assignments that have been noted. These sheets count as a homework assignment and are worth 10 points each. |
Test & Quiz Policy
|
Tests and quizzes are given approximately every 2-3 weeks. Notification of assessments are given to students in class as well as noted on the previous week's assignment sheet.
Students are given the opportunity to correct their tests and quizzes to better their score. There is no minimum grade needed to do this. A corrected answer will be worth half the amount of the original test question's value. Points will only be given if a parent or guardian has signed the test. Test corrections and signatures are due the day after the assessments are given back. Any corrections turned in late will be worth only one quarter of the original question's value. All corrections must be made on a separate piece of paper. |
Grading System
|
All grades are determined by a point system. Various types of assignments are worth a determined amount of points and the score is calculated by dividing the number of questions correct by the total number of questions.
Tests = 100 points Quizzes = 50 points Homework = varies based on assignments Projects and assessments = varies based on assignment Some assignments and assessments will be scored by a rubric. These assignments will not be given a percentage grade, but will be used to determine a student's final marking period grade. |

SNACKS - Due to the time of the fifth grade lunch, students are allowed to bring in a snack to eat during the day. Snacks should be easily accessible and able to be eaten while the students are working in class. Snacks should also be of a nutritious nature.
