In the Classroom
Writing: The class is currently working on realistic fiction stories. They have been working on choosing their story ideas and developing their characters. They are working hard and are excited about this writing unit. Reading: We will be reading several realistic fiction stories and learning how to read them in a critical way. We will be inferring about characters' personalities and motivations through their actions, words and interaction with other characters in the stories and developing ideas or theories about the characters. These skills will help us in developing our own stories. Science: We will be starting our unit on Solar Energy. We will be observing differences in size and position of shadows as a result of the positions of Earth and the Sun. We will learn how to use a compass to orient objects and practice using thermometers. We will also learn various vocabulary terms related to solar energy and energy transfer. Social Studies: We are finishing up Chapter 8 on New England Colonies and starting Chapter 9 on the Middle Colonies - Getting ready for Colonial Day. Math: We are finishing up Unit 9 on coordinates, area, volume and capacity. The students are working with coordinate graphs, area concepts and formulas for volume and capacity. |
