Suggestions for

Reading

Almost all of the titles listed below are works of fiction. I do encourage reading nonfiction books/stories and poetry as well. Nonfiction depends on readers' interests. David A. Adler, for example, writes excellent biographies for students who enjoy those. Additionally, there are wonderful poetry anthologies for children, written by Brod Bagert, Paul B. Janeczko, and Eloise Greenfield, for example.

Reading varied genres is wonderful for everyone. Choices can be made from titles of realistic fiction, science fiction, fantasy, folktales, historical fiction, anthologies of short-stories, mysteries, biographies/autobiographies, poetry anthologies, how-to books, and nonfiction books dealing with science, history, culture, etc.

Magazines and newspapers are also fun, interesting, and informative. For those who read The Record, a nonfiction "Mini-Page" for children appears every Tuesday, usually in the Health section. The "Mini-Page" contains nonfiction text on a particular subject, along with a dot-to-dot, word search puzzle, "Mini spy,"and illustrations dealing with that subject. In addition, there is a recipe and a "Mini-Jokes" section.
