Students attend Basic Skills classes based on the following criteria:

• formal assessments (standardized tests)
• informal assessments (teacher-made tests, observations, etc.)
• previous classroom teacher recommendations
• current classroom teacher recommendations
• previous year's Basic Skills teacher recommendations, if applicable
• current year's Basic Skills teacher recommendations

• fact families (addition/subtraction; multiplication/division)
• algorithms (addition, subtraction, multiplication) - grade 3
• algorithms (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) - grades 4 and 5
• rounding
• estimating
• number stories (single- and multi-step)
• measurement (standard and metric; perimeter and area)
• money (coin values and making change)
• time (reading an analog clock and calculating lapsed time)
• geometry (shapes and angle idenification/measurement)
• fractions and decimals
