Enrichment

Bogert School is committed to meeting the needs of all students by providing high quality educational programs with differentiated learning experiences. By differentiating instruction in the classroom, teachers provide enrichment opportunities for students within the framework of the curriculum.

The Bogert School Enrichment Program builds upon the programs and instructional strategies that make up the curriculum. The District has adopted programs that are high level, research-based, and challenging for advanced students. We believe that meeting the needs of intellectually advanced students within the classroom by providing challenging instruction, assessing student progress continuously, and reframing instruction to meet students at their level benefits all.

Some of our programs include:

* Reading and Writing Workshop based on the Columbia University -Teachers College model that incorporates significant independent work and individual conferencing
* Everyday Mathematics that supports open-ended, problem solving activities
* FOSS Science that is inquiry-based and hands-on
* A curriculum that provides for enrichment extensions in each discipline

Continental Math League

As part of Bogert School's commitment to provide various enrichment activities for students, all students are invited to participate in the Continental Math League (CML). Continental Math League is a reputable, nationwide mathematics competition that challenges students to apply reasoning and problem-solving skills to complex mathematical problems. Students who attend these meets will participate in quizzes that consist of six open-ended problems. These questions are designed to encourage students to use a variety of strategies in the areas of mathematical and visual problem solving.

Enrichment Specialist

The Enrichment Specialist works with groups of identified students on curriculum related activities. In math, these activities provide opportunities for students to incorporate multiple problem solving strategies when approaching open ended problems. Within the Reading Workshop, students are provided higher level thinking strategies and open ended activities related to the books they are reading.

The Enrichment Specialist works hand-in-hand with staff members to develop, design, and implement units of study and activities that challenge all students and meet the needs of identified students. Teachers work collaboratively with the Enrichment Specialist to develop challenging activities designed to encourage critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity. Ongoing professional development is provided to train staff members and develop an array of instructional strategies for differentiation in the classroom.
