Each student will choose an article from a magazine that they will have read. Students will generate questions or comments about that particular article in order to draft a letter to either the writer or the editor. After learning more about the possibilities of using Microsoft Word and its different functions, students will create their own stationary to type their letters.

Your group's task is to use the Internet and other resources to collect clues about rocks and minerals and how they are used. You will gather information to share with the other members of your group. Your group will have a short debriefing session when you are finished with your search. As a group, you will be looking for the answers to these questions: What are minerals? What are the physical characteristics of your assigned mineral? Where is your assigned mineral found as a natural resource? How is your assigned mineral used once it is mined from the earth? What are the three different types of rocks and how are they formed? What type of rock is your assigned mineral associated with? This information will then be organized by your group into a multimedia presentation using PowerPoint. Your group will then be ready to share the findings of your detective work with the community. (Written by Kim Barron)

Your task is to use the data that you collected for Study Link 9.6 in order to complete page 261 in your Everyday Math Journal. Once your Math Journal page is completed, you will be assigned one set of data to use to complete a graphing activity. Using Excel, you will learn how to enter data into cells, calculate totals, and design an appropriate graph to display the results of your work.

| Your group's task is to design a plan to spend $1,000,000. Such plans may include a way to save the rain forest; a plan to build new parks and playgrounds in your town; etc. Your group will use the Internet and other resources to collect information about how all of your expenses involved in carrying out the details of your plan will be included. For example, if you are opening a ballet studio, you must consider how many teachers you will need and how much you will pay them. Using Microsoft Excel, you will record, in an organized spreadsheet and graph, exactly how the $1,000,000 will be spent. Your plan and research will then be organized by your group into a multimedia presentation using PowerPoint. Your group will then be ready to share your plan and findings with the community. Your group's task is to research information about a selected author or artist in order to create a multimedia presentation. Research may include information about the person's personal life, their educational background, their writing or art career, as well as list of their work and reviews. Using iMovie, you will insert clips related to your author or artist, add titles and transitions, record a written script highlighting the research you found, and possibly add other media.
