Purpose

Resource Center Replacement offers students the opportunity to learn at their own pace and level. The children's self esteem is an important component in all of the classes. Levels of instruction are geared so that students achieve success.

Language Arts Replacement Program

The Resource Center Language Arts Replacement Program is uses the Readers' and Writers' Workshop models. Modifications to support student learning include:

  • Orton Gillingham Multisensory Language Instruction
  • Reader's & Writer's Workshop
  • Sequential spelling instruction
  • Basic Writing Skill
  • Oral Reading for fluency
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Read Alouds
  • Reading of Novels

Organizational Skills

Students organize their binders so that their materials and papers are easily located. Upcoming work and tests are recorded in students' planners. Study guides and flash cards are created for upcoming tests. Students can focus on areas of difficulty in their academic classes. This support enables the children to achieve success.

Helpful Hints !

  • Keep materials needed for homework in one spot - dictionary, pencils and pens, calculator, paper, etc.
  • Parents and students look through student binder.
  • Clean out old papers regularly from the binder.
  • Check assignment pad daily for homework and important reminders.
  • Homework area should be well lit and free from distraction.
  • Read homework over for understanding.

Parent Resources

Books and tapes on the topics of learning disabilities and dyslexia can be borrowed from the Upper Saddle River Library. There is a specific section that has been donated by USR parents to provide information on this subject.
