This year, third grade students are beginning their study of Spanish, while fourth and fifth grade students will continue to explore the Spanish language. When students attend Cavallini Middle School, they may choose, at that time, to study either French or Spanish.

Students will have many opportunities to develop and expand their abilities in World Language. These will include: conversations, games, songs, paired and group activities, presentations, and adaptations of familiar literature and folk tales. Students will also study cultural selections and appropriate grammar units.

Procedures
Third GradeNews
Third grade Spanish students have been learning vocabulary for rooms of the house and other household items. Students will work during class to make a sketch of their own houses which they will label in Spanish. Right after the break, third graders will begin their Passport projects. Students will pick a Spanish-speaking country and create a passport which will include a map, a flag and much more.
Fourth Grade News

Fourth grade Spanish students have just recently begun a unit on foods and meals in the Spanish-speaking world. Students will learn common words in Spanish for foods that we all eat. We will also have an opportunity to learn about some dishes and customs that students have not experienced in the U.S.A. Many students will share customs from countries other than Hispanic countries. We will end this unit with a dialogue set in a restaurant in Spain, and students will also try writing their own menus.

Fifth Grade News
Fifth grade Spanish students did a great job on their Family Projects and are now working on various parts of their Puerto Rico unit. With the taping of their dialogues completed, groups are involved in a project that will require each member to research two places of interest in Puerto Rico. Groups will also draw a flag of Puerto Rico and, when all of their work is complete, they will post it on a posterboard to display in class. We continue to practice the very important verb SER and to review other general vocabulary in Spanish as well.
