Writing This month writing will focus on how people write about people who are important to them. Using mentor texts, the children will investigate why the author wrote about the person, what his relationship was, and what he wanted us to learn about the person. In addition we’ll be noticing the tools of the writers so that each child will end the unit with a profile they have written of a person who is special to them.
Spelling/Phonics We will be studying prefixes, suffixes and word endings.
Math We have completed Unit 8 with our study of fractions. Unit 9 involves measurement with yards and meters, measuring more accurately to the nearest half inch, measuring longer distances, developing the concepts of area and perimeter, and learning units of weight.
Science/Social Studies We will shortly begin our unit on organisms which will take us through June. We will investigate seeds, and learn about woodland and freshwater habitats by creating classroom aquariums and terrariums. We are studying patriotism through books, songs and Memorial Day literature.
Important Dates to Remember: Monday May 9 Last chance to read with your child at 7:55 am. Thursday May 22 Pride In America Assembly
