JUNE 2008

SANDCASTLE ART, SEPTEMBER 2007

It’s hard to believe that our last month of the school year has arrived! 2-R has used their great brain power all year long and have used their hearts as well to practice kindness!

We will come together to learn more about each other through our talent show on June 20th at 9:00 SHARP in our classroom. (Our last school day)

Our final work in Reading Workshop this year will focus on refection and planning for future reading. We will look back at our important growth as readers this year and look ahead to set goals that can be evaluated. We will celebrate our strengths and accomplishments and raise enthusiasm for tackling our weaknesses.

We are finishing our last few spelling lists. A review list will come home to study, shortly. It will contain two words from each lesson and pattern studied this year. The children will be expected to know each spelling word on a final mastery test.

At Writing Workshop, we are polishing up our people profiles, and free choice writing in any form studied this year. We are reflecting on our best writing this year. We will also write memories of second grade to present to next year’s students in 2-R.

In Math, we will revisit whole number operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and the children will take a final, cumulative review test.

In Science, we will busily grow plants and observe in writing as well as verbally, guppies, snails, pill bugs and beetles or centipedes as they relate to their very different habitats.

In Social Studies, we will finish our map skills workbooks, and celebrate Flag Day to culminate our patriotic studies.

I have so enjoyed working with this class of learners. As always, I believe I have learned much this year as well, having seen the world through the curious eyes of children. Have a fabulous, healthy summer and please visit with me in the new school year! I miss you all, already!
