October News
After a great first month together, we are ready to continue to improve on good work habits and positive community building. As the winds of autumn whirl around outside, the Jr. K class is settling in nicely.
This month we begin our study of Dd by following directions, digging for dirt, doing Dropper Art, dancing with delight, and exploring the concept of a dozen. We read about Dalmatians, different versions of The Ugly Duckling, and The Doorbell Rang.
The second week we explore Fire Safety with the help of Sparky the Firehouse dog, and size and sequencing with Christopher Columbus.
We prepare for Pp with a few books on pancakes and sequence how to make them. We also read The Princess and the Pea as the connection for our Alphabet Journals. We reinforce the letter sound with paint pallets, pentagon people, personal puzzles, and Pattern Block People with individual graphs.
We wrap up the month with lovely LL just in time when all of the leaves are lifted away. We explore line directions, left sides, lemon-scented play dough, and Lincoln penny math. We read The Araboolies of Liberty Street to celebrate the unique spirit in each of us. We also read The Longest Journey, A Penny A Look, Going on a Leaf Hunt, and a few versions of The Lion and the Mouse.
