Parent/Teacher Communication

A positive parent/teacher relationship is key to a successful school year.
Our homepage will be updated monthly. Notes and notices, sent home in your child's folder, will keep you updated on classroom happenings.
Please do not hesitate to phone, e-mail, or send a note regarding any questions or concerns.

voicemail: 201-961-6300 x2098
e-mail: ccherubino@usrschoolsk8.com (include your child's name in the subject!)

Please EMPTY your child's folder every day! Homework, notes, and notices will all be sent home in this folder! Any notes for me should be sent to school in the folder as well (remind your child to put notes for the teacher in the red basket). This routine helps to build a strong home/school connection.

Money

On the occasions when it will be necessary for your child to bring money to school, please send it in a labeled envelope.
Be sure to include your child's name and the purpose for the money. This will help me a great deal and reduce the likelihood of errors.

Book Orders

Reading will be an integral part of each school day. Daily reading at home will reinforce skills learned in the classroom,
as well as help to foster a love of reading. Your child will bring home a book order form about once a month.
If you wish to order, simply fill out the form and return it to me, with a check made out to Scholastic (Please check your math).
These orders are provided as a convenient way for parents to buy quality books for their child at an affordable price. As an added bonus, each dollar spent on books earns points which can be used
to purchase books for our classroom library.

Mystery Reader

Mystery Reader is an opportunity for you to make a SURPRISE visit to your child's class and read a story.
The reader must choose and bring the book(s)-no snacks or prizes please!.
This is a great way for parents to share a love of reading!
I will contact you at the beginning of the month(s) you signed up for to set a specific date and time.

Absence/Tardiness

Please call the attendance office if your child will be absent (Mrs. Donadio x6376). If your child will be absent due to a family vacation, please send a note. Your child's work will be set aside to be completed upon his/her return to school. Work will not be given in advance!

Children will be marked tardy if they arrive after 8:05 am. If your child arrives after 8:15 am, please have him/her go directly to the attendance office for a late pass.

Lunch/Snack/Recess

Please send a healthy lunch and snack every day. Easy to open packages, wet ones, and napkins are recommended.

**Please be mindful of peanut, nut, and sesame seed allergies in our classroom.

Weather permitting, the children will go outside for recess everyday. Please keep this in mind when dressing your child for school. I recommend dressing your child in layers. Girls may be more comfortable, on the play equipment, wearing shorts under skirts and dresses. If your child does not have on appropriate shoes, he/she will not be allowed on the play equipment.

Dismissal

If there will be a change in your child's normal transportation, please send a note! If your child will be picked up, please encourage him/her to wait for me to acknowledge who he/she is leaving with. To insure each child's safety, children will not be allowed to run to parents, or caregivers, at dismissal.

If you need to ask me a question, or discuss something with me, please wait until all children have been dismissed.

Birthdays

Birthday treats (and napkins) may be sent to school before 9:45 am on your child's birthday, or the agreed upon date. Healthy treats are encouraged. NO cakes, candles, or goody bags, please! Summer birthdays may be celebrated during the school year. Please send me a note when you are ready to set a date.

**Please be mindful of peanut, nut, and sesame seed allergies in our classroom!

Homework

A homework packet will be sent home each Monday and will be due back on Friday. The packet will follow a similar pattern each week, so children can complete activities independently. In additon, monthly calendars will be sent home. Calendar activities are for enrichment- completion is optional.

Homework should be done in pencil. Encourage your child to have pride in his/her work (take your time, write your name carefully, color,...) Above all, please remember that it is your child's homework and you are there to assist.

HELP YOUR CHILD TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS/HER BELONGINGS...PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING!
