Children may enter the classroom at 7:55 and will be marked tardy if they arrive after 8:05. If your child arrives to school after 8:15, please direct him/her to the school attendance office to receive a late pass. Please call the attendance office at ext. 6376, if your child will be absent due to illness. Please notify the school in advance if your child will be absent due to a family vacation. I will hold your child's work to be given to your child upon his/her return to school. It will not be available for your child prior to your trip. All medications should be given to the nurse if taken during school hours. If your child is going home with someone other than usual, please notify me in writing prior to dismissal. Please DO NOT email dismissal information as I check email 3 times a day and may not get the information in time for dismissal. More importantly, if I am absent, this information will not be available to the substitute. Following these guidelines will alleviate any confusion as well as insure your child’s safety. Please remind your child that they need to be dismissed by me and not to run to parents/caregivers at the end of the day. Birthday snacks may be sent in the morning of your child’s birthday/birthday week and will be distributed during snack time. If you are dropping off the snack, please make sure it is in the office by 9:15. Parents may not attend the classroom celebration. Please do not send in cakes, doughnuts, cupcakes, chocolate of any kind, marshmallows candles or goody bags. Goody bags as well as any treat which does not follow the guidelines set by Reynolds School will not be distributed and will be sent home with your child. Reynolds School is promoting healthly choices for snacks. Please come up with creative alternative for birthday treats such as: yogurt, fruit, pretzels, baked crakers etc. Please let me know the day in which you will be sending in a birthday snack. Summer birthdays can be scheduled during the school year. Please pick a date that is convenient for you and let me know in writing. Your child’s folder is our communication tool. Please CHECK and EMPTY the folder daily for notices, homework etc. I will also check folders daily for completed homework or notes from home. Please refrain from asking questions at dismissal time. The dismissal process is complex and the safety and well being of each student is my priority. However, if there is a problem of an urgent nature, you may wait until my entire class is dismissed. During school hours you may contact me: Voice mail: (201) 961-6300 ext. 2101 e-mail: cstawecki @usrschoolsk8.com Please LABEL your child’s clothing, backpacks and any other personal items. Hopefully this will eliminate confusion especially during the winter months. Homework will be sent home on a daily basis. The following will be the framework in which I will follow: Monday Family Reading Night Tuesday Reading Night Wednesday Math Thursday Poetry Journal **READ WITH YOUR CHILD FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES EACH NIGHT. Set time aside each day for your child to complete homework assignments. Homework should be done in PENCIL unless otherwise specified. Encourage your child to take his/her time, color, and write his/her name neatly and carefully. Above all, please remember it is your child’s homework and you are there to assist. Homework will instill a sense of responsibility in your child, reinforce skills being taught and allow you to follow along in your child’s academic career. It is also a wonderful way to create a strong home and school bond!! Book Orders Reading will be an integral part of each school day. Daily reading at home will reinforce skills learned in the classroom, as well as help to foster a love of reading. Once a month your child will bring home a book order form. If you are interested in ordering, send your child’s order and payment to school. These book clubs provide a convenient way for parents to buy quality books at an affordable price. As an added bonus, each dollar spent earns points which can be used to purchase books for our classroom library. Visitors Welcome I welcome anyone who wishes to come into the classroom to share hobbies, interests, occupation etc. with the class. Mystery Reader Mystery Reader is an opportunity for you to make a SURPRISE visit to your child’s class. I will contact you at the beginning of the month(s) you signed up for during Curriculum Night so that we can set a date and time for you to come in. Please refrain from bringing in treats or surprises of any kind during your visit. Having the opportunity to be a Mystery Reader is a terrific way for you to share your love of reading with your child.
