Kindergarten Classroom and School Procedures

Snack and Lunch
Snack is served in our classroom at approximately 10:00 a.m. Please send a healthy snack to school with your child every day. Lunch is at 12:20 p.m. in the cafeteria and weather permitting, the children then go outside for recess until 1:00 p.m. Milk is served during lunch. If you do not choose to purchase milk, you should send your child with a drink for both snack and lunch. Snack should be packed separately from lunch so that your child knows what s/he is expected to eat at each time.

Please do not send in glass containers and if possible, please try to avoid sending in snacks containing peanuts and other tree nuts.

Tardiness
The classroom door opens at 7:55 a.m. Children may enter at that time, unpack and get settled for the day. Children are marked tardy if they arrive after 8:05 a.m. If your child arrives after 8:05 a.m., please have him/her go directly to the Attendance Office for a late pass.

Absentees
Please call the school if your child will be absent due to illness. Please notify the school in advance if your child will be absent due to vacation. Please try to schedule vacations during our school breaks if possible.

Birthdays
School Parties: On or near your child's birthday, you may send in a healthy snack for the class. Cupcakes, donuts, ice cream and any other unhealthy snacks are strictly not allowed. You may drop off the treats in the morning. Please drop me a note at least one day before you would like to do this telling me exactly what will be provided.

Summer Birthdays: Children who have a summer birthday will have the opportunity to celebrate their birthday in school during the month of June. I will send home a schedule around the end of May.

Home Parties: Invitations for home parties should not be distributed in the classroom. Please mail all invitations and be sure to include everyone in our class.

Backpacks and Folders
It is important to establish routines from the start of the school year. Please make it a part of your child's routine to pack and unpack their own backpack (with your help and guidance). Take time to share backpack contents with your child. They are so proud of their written work and want to share it with you.

RED FOLDER

The red folder is called the “Home Folder.” Each day, children will take their work and notes home in them. It is very important to look inside this folder each and every night. Please remove your child’s work and read all notices in them. Also, if you have forms to return or notes for me, please send them to school in this folder. Your child will be responsible for getting them to me when s/he arrives at school. It is helpful to remind her/him if there is something important in the red folder for me.

BLUE FOLDER

On MONDAYS, children will take their homework folders home in their backpacks. All the assignments for the week will be in the folder. Rather than having individual assignments each night, your child will have the entire school week to work on them.

In addition to the homework assignments, your child’s MATH JOURNAL will be kept in the folder. On WEDNESDAYS, please complete the assignment pasted into the math journal (this is the day designated by all of Reynolds school for math journals). The math journal should always be kept in the homework folder.

On FRIDAYS, children will return the folders to school with the completed assignments and math journal in them. Please do not send in the folders before Friday.

Homework is an opportunity to work with your child and to encourage them. They love to hear what a terrific job they did with their work!

Labeling
Labeling clothing, backpacks, lunch boxes and personal items is very helpful. The lost and found box is located outside of the office close to the front doors.

Medications
All medications must be given to the nurse if taken during school hours.

Changes in Transportation
Each child will have a regular dismissal schedule. If for any reason this schedule changes, I must receive a written note from you. Do not rely on your child to tell me this information, because children often become confused and relay messages incorrectly. If no written note is received, (or message left with the main office), your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation.
