Kindergarten Classroom and School Procedures

Snack and Lunch
Snack is served in our classroom at approximately 10:00 a.m. Please send a healthy snack to school with your child every day. Lunch is at 12:20 p.m. in the cafeteria and weather permitting, the children then go outside for recess until 1:00 p.m. Milk is served during lunch. If you do not choose to purchase milk, you should send your child with a drink for both snack and lunch. Please do not send in glass containers.

Tardiness
The classroom door opens at 7:55 a.m. Children may enter at that time, unpack and get settled for the day. Children are marked tardy if they arrive after 8:05 a.m. If your child arrives after 8:05 a.m., please have him/her go directly to the Attendance Office for a late pass.

Absentees
Please call the school if your child will be absent due to illness. Please notify the school in advance if your child will be absent due to vacation.

Birthdays
School Parties: On or near your child's birthday, you may send in a healthy snack for the class. You may drop off the treats in the morning. Please drop me a note at least one day before you would like to do this telling me exactly what will be provided.

Summer Birthdays: Children who have a summer birthday will have the opportunity to celebrate their birthday in school during the month of June. I will send home a schedule around the end of May.

Home Parties: Invitations for home parties should not be distributed in the classroom unless the entire class has been invited.

Backpacks and Folders
It is important to establish routines from the start of the school year. Be sure to check your child's folder every day for newsletters and notices from school. Please make it a part of your child's routine to pack and unpack their own backpack (with your help and guidance). Take time to share backpack contents with your child. They are so proud of their written work and want to share it with you.

Homework
Your child will have a "take-home paper" to complete Monday through Thursday. Please help your child with remembering to return this assignment to their folder. Each Wednesday the Math Journal will be sent home as the night's homework. (It is important to work with your child on these assignments.) The Math Journal is due back at school on Thursday.

Homework is an opportunity to work with your child and to encourage them. They love to hear what a terrific job they did with their work!

Labeling
Labeling clothing, backpacks, lunch boxes and personal items is very helpful. The lost and found box is located outside of the office close to the front doors.

Medications
All medications must be given to the nurse if taken during school hours.

Changes in Transportation
Each child will have a regular dismissal schedule. If for any reason this schedule changes, I must receive a written note from you. Do not rely on your child to tell me this information, because children often become confused and relay messages incorrectly. If no written note is received, (or message left with the main office), your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation.

Guest reader
The guest reader will have the opportunity to come in and read one or two books to our class. Guest Reader is every Thursday from 11:45--12:05 p.m. A sign up sheet will be available at Curriculum Night. If you are interested in reading to the class but cannot come in on Thursdays at the scheduled time, please let me know. Please do not send in any treats at this time. It is a time to share your love of reading with the children and goodies or candy is discouraged.

I LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING TO KNOW YOU AND DEVELOPING OUR PARTNERSHIP SO THAT YOUR CHILD WILL HAVE A WONDERFUL KINDERGARTEN EXPERIENCE!
