Intervention and Referral Service (I&RS)
The Intervention and Referral Service is a team intervention process for identifying student concerns and developing specific plans to address these concerns. The concern may be academic, behavioral or health related. The "team" consists of the teacher, parents, principal, a representative from the Child Study Team and the guidance counselor. The basic skills instructor and nurse are also included if needed. The team members meet initially to develop an "Action Plan." The plan addresses concerns by developing specific accommodations within a time line for implementation and review. The guidance counselor serves as the coordinator for scheduling and monitoring the Action Plan. This process can be initiated by any member of the team.
