The Technology program at the Reynolds School is very exciting! Children in grades Pre K-2 attend a scheduled technology class with the technology teacher once every 6-day cycle. Additionally, each classroom is equipped with multiple computers and a color printer. Laptops carts are also available for teachers to use in their classrooms as desired throughout the year. In our classes, technology is used as a tool for research, writing assignments, graphics presentations, basic skills practice, multi-media presentations, and creative expression with consideration always given to age appropriate lessons. Keyboarding skills and network file management is also introduced when children are capable of working comfortably in these areas. All children work on programs that reinforce skills taught in the classroom in math, reading, science, and social studies. Children in all grade levels work on the internet and are exposed to selected educational sites which supplement and enhance their classroom learning.

We strive to seamlessly integrate technology into the grade level curriculums. While the technology department has its owns goals and assessments, we teach them in an integrated manner, rather than as a separate "computer' program. For example, second graders work on an internet research project as part of their classroom study of Colonial America while kindergarten classes work on animal studies in the tech lab to complement their own classroom curriculum. Technology. as a subject, is totally woven into each grade level curriculum.

A very important component of the USR technology program is the i-SAFE program taught by the technology department to all grade levels. This program provides students with the awareness and knowledge they need in order to recognize and avoid dangerous, destructive, or unlawful online behavior and to respond appropriately. Age appropriate teaching and learning activities vary from grade to grade and may include: personal safety, e-mail protocol, predator identification, rules of intellectual property and cyber community attributes. We believe that this curriculum is necessary to protect and empower our students and hope that you can offer your support to this program as well by continuing the discussion of these topics at home. For more information about i-SAFE, we invite you to visit www.isafe.org.
